Tips For Choosing Names For Turtles

Pet Turtle

The first thing that we know is that names have meanings. This is as true of lizard and frog names as it is turtle names.

If you are looking for a little more meaning to the name you give your turtle then researching its roots is important. A name like Horace means “man of time”. Seeing as turtles have been around since the Triassic period with Dinosaurs and they can live for decades, this would be a great choice!

We also known that pets don’t often just stay with one name. Nicknames are just as fun too.

When you are looking at different ideas think about nicknames too. The name Clementine from our cute names can be shortened to Clem, Clem.

Two syllable names work the best.

Researchers at the University of British Columbia found that pets who have two syllable names can recognize their name.

If training a turtle to recognize its name is not something that is important to you, don’t worry too much about syllable count. Instead focus on their traits and appearance.

You will need to think about what stands out about your turtle and pick names that match.

For example our funny turtle names category is a great place to look through if your turtle is a little silly. Names like Neck, Godzilla, or Turbo are great for a jokester!

Finally our best advice is to choose a name that you actually like.

If the name makes you happy, that is the perfect one.

We hope that one of the many wonderful turtle names in this article are exactly what you love. Make sure to leave us a comment and let us know your favorite!
